Tombstone Talks - April 27th
Featuring Prairie Mound Cemetery - Solomon KS
Join us for an afternoon guided walking tour through the cemetery to hear re-enactors tell the stories of our ancestors.
Ancestors being portrayed: Mr. J.T. Sellards, Charles William Bocker, Henry Whitley, Mr. Clyde E. Wood, Mr. Montraville Sias
Tour Times: 1:00 pm; 1:20 pm; 1:40 pm; 2:00 pm; 2:40 pm; 3:00 pm
Tickets: $5 each in advance by Thursday, April 24th. Tickets may be purchased at the Heritage Center or call 785-263-2681.

Park and gather at North side (parking is available in the alleyway) of Solomon City Hall at 103 W Main. We will take you on a bus to the cemetery.

Statehood Ball
January 25th at 7:00 pm
Sterl Hall - Abilene KS
The Kansas Brigade Band will be playing traditional 1860-1880 music. Derrick Doty will be showing us the moves to the contra style dance. Along with the dance, there will be cookies and punch. Bring your friends, family and anyone else to this family fun event. Admission is $5 per person at the door.

Dickinson County Scholastic Art Show
Students Grades K - 12th
Public Reception Sunday, February 2nd from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Free Admission to the Museum during the Reception. Please come to see your student's artwork on display among others. This event is for all student's family members including grandparents.

Tombstone Cleaning Class
February 22nd at 1:00 pm
Learn safe ways to clean and maintain tombstones. Class is at no cost, so join us for a fun class!

Barn Quilt Class
March 22nd from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
Beginners will learn to make a barn quilt on a 2x2 square. All supplies are furnished. Bring a sack lunch to enjoy. Class is limited to 16 people, so sign up early. Cost is $60.

Spring Tombstone Talks

This years Spring Talk will feature Prairie Mound Cemetery east of Solomon. Join is for an afternoon guided walking tour through the cemetery to hear re-enactors tell the stories of our ancestors. Purchase tickets in advance. Tickets are $5 each.

​Pioneer Camp
Week 1: June 2nd - 6th
Week 2: June 9th - 13th
Pioneer Camp was developed in 1989 with the concept of acquanting today's children with the life style of children in the past in a fun and educational manner. Enrollment form along with payment of camp fee must be submitted by April 30th. Fee for non-members is $125 for each camper. If you are currently a member of Dickinson County Historical Society, your campers fee is $100 for each camper and $75 for each camper after that. Slots fill up quickly, so enroll as soon as you can.

Memories of the Prairie
June 14th, June 21st, June 28th, July 5th, July 12th
Experience first-hand stories, educational programs and re-enactors bring history to life at the Historical Society and Museum on Saturdays during the summer. Come learn about the history of Dickinson County and Kansas from those that have lived it. The series culminates with an old-fashioned ice cream social.

Ice Cream Social​
July 19th
This annual event is a time to enjoy homemade ice cream and good fellowship with a chance to take home a pie, cake, cookies or other baked goods up for auction. Auction revenue benefits the historical society.

​Fall Tombstone Talks
October 26th
On a dark night, experience a guided walking tour through a cemetery to hear re-enactors tell the stories of some of the more colorful charaters of Dickinson County. The veterans at Abilene Cemetery will be featured.

Old Fashioned Christmas
December 6th - 7th
Come enjoy an old fashioned Christmas in our lighted village with a live nativity in the barn, rides on a 1901 wooden carousel, a prairie Christmas in the authentic log cabin, live Christmas music, a craft for kids in the one-room schoolhouse, German foods in the historic Burkland Grocery Store and much, much more.
